The Radish Rejects II

Yesterday, I thinned the radishes out more by picking off the weakest ones. This time around, all of the rejects had their true leaves coming in. If you read my last post, you might remember that only two of last time's picking's had true leaves on them. The roots are getting thicker and longer too.

I picked most of these seedlings because they were growing slower than their counterparts. However, for the two with the largest leaves in the group, breakage in the stem was contributing factor. One of these was growing sideways away from its siblings and towards the carrots.

Here's a closer look at the breaks in one of the stems and at the developing roots. The stems are much thicker and the roots much longer than the ones of those from the other day. Interestingly, Popcorn the Syrian Hamster showed a preference for eating the true leaves first this time. Last time, she chowed down root first. I wonder if there's a taste or texture difference in the root.
